Year 4's Great Metre Mystery
24th Sep 2025
Year 4 turned into measurement detectives this week as they explored what makes a metre, both indoors and outdoors! With metre sticks and rulers in hand, they compared everyday objects from desks to doors, hallways to hedges, and were often surprised at what was bigger or smaller than expected. This fun activity links to the Measures strand of the NI Curriculum, where pupils estimate, measure and record using standard units while developing problem-solving and reasoning skills. Lots of teamwork, discussion and “aha!” moments made the hunt a brilliant success—who knew a metre could be found in so many places?
