Year 3 Explore Tessellations in Nature at Forest School🌳🌳
This week at Forest School, our Year 3 pupils became nature mathematicians as they investigated tessellations in the world around them. The children explored the outdoor environment searching for repeating patterns and shapes that fit together without gaps or overlaps.
Using leaves, bark, flowers and natural materials, the pupils discovered examples of tessellations in honeycombs, tree bark patterns and overlapping petals. They worked collaboratively to create their own tessellation artwork using sticks, stones and leaves, showing excellent creativity and problem-solving skills.
The activity encouraged the children to make links between Mathematics, Art and the natural world while developing teamwork and observation skills. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm, curiosity and imagination throughout the session.
Well done to all of Year 3 for their fantastic investigating and outdoor learning!
