Amazing Area in the wonderful outdoors

Forest School Area Fun
During our Forest School session, the children explored the maths concept of area — the space inside a shape — through teamwork and outdoor learning. Using ropes and pegs, small groups created different shapes and experimented with making their areas larger and smaller. The children compared each group’s shape, ordering them from the smallest to the largest area and explaining their reasoning. To finish, all 18 children worked together to use one long rope to create the largest area possible, discovering how collaboration can make a big difference. The session was full of discussion, problem‑solving, and laughter, and ended perfectly with s’mores and pop mallows enjoyed around the firepit.
